- The head of the PMR thanked Russia and spoke for the continuation of the peacekeepers' work.
Residents of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) are grateful to Russia for the peacekeeping operation in the region and advocate its continuation. This was stated on July 29 by the head of the republic Vadim Krasnoselsky in an address on the occasion of the Day of the deployment of Russian peacekeeping forces in Transnistria.
The politician noted that in modern conditions it is extremely important that the current peacekeeping operation continues, and its format is not subject to revision.
"I am deeply convinced that Russia, as the guarantor of peace on the Dniester, has always ensured and continues to ensure the inviolability of previously reached agreements that underpin the current format of the peacekeeping operation. Pridnestrovians are grateful to the Russian Federation for its contribution to strengthening security and stability," the website of the head of the PMR says.
On July 19, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov announced that Russia had minimized its military presence in the unrecognized Transnistrian region, where it conducts a peacekeeping operation and guards ammunition depots. The diplomat added that, in accordance with the decisions taken, the Russian Federation is pursuing a policy of reducing its military presence on the left bank of the Dniester.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 17 that the European Union (EU) and NATO were forcibly militarizing Moldova. According to Zakharova, Chisinau assured of its commitment to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Transnistria, "however, it does not follow its position."
