A swimmer died in the X-Waters Volga swim in Nizhny Novgorod.
In Nizhny Novgorod, Dmitry Ionov, a participant in the X-Waters Volga swim, died due to a health problem that arose during the course. This was announced on July 26 by the press service of the competition on the VKontakte social network.
"During the X-Waters Volga swim, a tragedy occurred — one of the swimmers, Dmitry Ionov from Moscow, became ill. Dmitry participated in seven of our starts starting in 2023, and today he swam a distance of 3 km on the Volga," the message says.
It is noted that before the finish, the swimmer became ill and he turned to rescuers, who evacuated him with loss of consciousness. Despite receiving emergency treatment, the man died in intensive care.
The press service of the X-Waters Volga swim expressed its condolences to the relatives of the deceased.
Earlier, on June 15, two teenagers drowned in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in one day. It is specified that the first incident occurred near the village of Lovat in the Ilansky district, where a 15-year-old teenager drowned in a lake. The second case occurred in Boguchansky district, a boy drowned on the Chuna River. Three teenagers were swimming on a makeshift raft, but due to worsening weather conditions and strong winds, waves rose on the river, as a result of which the children had to jump off the raft.
