One of the serious causes of early awakenings may be adrenal insufficiency, a condition in which the body does not produce enough cortisol, a hormone that regulates circadian rhythms. Maxim Novikov, a somnologist at JSC Meditsina (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia about possible health problems that can cause regular early awakenings on July 24.

"With cortisol deficiency, the structure of sleep is disrupted: a person often wakes up at night, does not fall into deep sleep phases and gets up long before the alarm clock," Novikov explained.

However, the expert noted that this is not the only possible reason. Early awakenings can be associated with chronic stress, anxiety, depression, various sleep disorders, or physical discomfort.

The doctor recommends paying special attention to concomitant symptoms: constant fatigue, weight loss, decreased libido, problems with the gastrointestinal tract and darkening of individual skin areas. If these signs are present, it is necessary to undergo a medical examination.

Before visiting a specialist, Novikov advises following simple rules: adhere to a constant sleep regime, create comfortable conditions in the bedroom with darkening and cool temperatures, and limit the use of gadgets before bedtime. Relaxing evening rituals such as yoga, a warm bath or reading are also useful, and physical activity should be postponed to the first half of the day.

"It's important to avoid caffeine and alcohol after lunch and work with stress through breathing practices or meditation. But if the problem persists, a professional examination is necessary to identify possible hormonal disorders," the somnologist emphasized.

He warned against self-medication, noting that only accurate diagnosis will help to find the true cause of sleep disorders and return a full rest.

On July 23, Ekaterina Demyanovskaya, a neurologist and expert at the Hemotest laboratory, told Izvestia that disturbing dreams with an active plot may be one of the early non-specific signs of Parkinson's disease. According to her, a behavior disorder in the REM sleep phase, when a person physically acts out dreams, can occur years before the appearance of a characteristic tremor.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
