The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has suspended the procedures for issuing humanitarian visas. The corresponding message was posted on the website of the Foreign Ministry on July 23.

"Currently, humanitarian admission procedures have been suspended," the page says.

It is noted that as part of federal programs, as of January 2025, Germany provided entry to the country to 34.7 thousand "vulnerable" citizens of Afghanistan. In addition, the program for accepting Syrians and stateless persons seeking asylum from Turkey, which has been implemented since 2017, has provided for the relocation of up to 3,000 people to Germany annually.

On July 18, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledged the failure of the migration policy of former German Prime Minister Angela Merkel, which led to the migration crisis both in Germany and throughout Europe. At the same time, he also made it clear that he supports the immigration of highly qualified specialists to the labor market.
