The State Duma assessed the chances of a rapprochement with Ukraine in new negotiations

There will be a convergence of positions in the draft memoranda of Russia and Ukraine, but not at today's talks in Istanbul. Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, expressed this opinion on Wednesday, July 23.

He also noted that for the meeting of the heads of state of Russia and Ukraine, there should be a rapprochement of positions, which has not been observed to date.

"I think it will take some time and a lot of work to get closer. We understand that the tasks facing Ukraine are absolutely clear: to do everything possible to stop the offensive of Russian troops, to enable them to redeploy, obtain weapons, and mobilize," the parliamentarian said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

He added that it is based on this need that the Ukrainian negotiating group builds its positions and can delay negotiations.

According to the deputy, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is trying to organize a summit meeting, and for this, as Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, said earlier, some preparatory work is needed.
