Turkey has signed a preliminary agreement on the purchase of Eurofighter fighter jets
Ankara and London have signed a memorandum of understanding on the purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets for the Turkish Air Force. This was announced on July 23 on the website of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
"The memorandum of Understanding that we signed with my esteemed colleague brings us one step closer to a full—scale agreement on the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter," Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler said in a statement.
According to the newspaper Hurriyet, Ankara intends to purchase up to 40 European fighter jets.
Euractiv reported on March 24 that the European Union (EU) may involve Turkey in its rearmament plans amid the rise of US President Donald Trump to power and changes in geopolitics. It was noted that Ankara has an opportunity for closer military cooperation with the EU.
