Russian President Vladimir Putin understands that US leader Donald Trump may impose new sanctions against Russia, and is ready for this. This was reported on July 12 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"Putin was ready for the fact that Trump's patience would burst. According to them, he understood that Trump might eventually impose new sanctions," the publication notes.

The newspaper stressed that Putin intends to ignore pressure from Trump. However, at the same time, as noted, the Russian leader is pleased with his interaction with Trump and expects that he will still be able to negotiate with him on easing restrictive measures in the future.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on July 10 that the adoption of the bill on new US sanctions against Russia would not fundamentally affect Russia's course. He stressed that Moscow has learned how to successfully resist sanctions.

On July 9, Trump said that the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions depends solely on him. He added that he is closely following the process around the relevant bill in the US Congress.
