Starting a family remains a key life goal for 77% of Russians, while 71% of citizens are convinced that only an officially registered marriage can be considered a real family. Such data was presented by the FEEDBACK research center based on the results of an all-Russian survey dedicated to the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. Izvestia got acquainted with the results of the study on July 8.

Over the past year, the number of supporters of official marriage has increased by 9%, which indicates the return of traditional values.

"It is interesting that, despite the global trend of increasing the number of divorces, 60% of Russians are calmer about family breakdown than the older generation. The respondents named hasty choice of a partner (53%), infidelity (50%) and lack of common goals (45%) as the main reasons for the breakup of relations," the analysts noted.

The symbolism of the holiday is gradually changing: in 2024, 48% associated it with Peter and Fevronia, but now this figure has dropped to 38%. More personal images come to the fore — the parental home (35%), children's drawings (31%), children (29%) and even just a heart (26%). The traditional daisy remained among the recognizable symbols, gaining 17%.

The emotional palette of the holiday turned out to be warm and intimate: 58% of Russians associate it with love, 52% with comfort, and 28% with gratitude. It is noteworthy that 59% of respondents are sure that this day really strengthens family ties. One in five (21%) mistakenly believes that the holiday originated as a public initiative, and not in the church tradition.

Family values are still a priority: respect (84%), love and support (83%), responsibility (69%). However, 57% of respondents say that young people have become less committed to traditional ideas about the family.

In 2025, 64% of citizens would prefer to celebrate a holiday in nature with their loved ones. Museums and exhibitions attract 46%, but only 49% are interested in educational events. Young people are more likely to choose home—based feasts, while the older generation prefers urban events.

The importance of the date continues to grow: 54% of Russians consider it important. The holiday has already entered the top 7 most significant dates for Russians, and 25% regularly participate in events dedicated to it. The religious context is gradually giving way to universal values: in 2024, 61% associated the day with Orthodoxy, but now the focus has shifted to family values (59%).

Earlier, on April 23, it was reported that modern Russians are increasingly using psychological compatibility as the main criterion for choosing a partner. Thus, 88% of women and 82% of men check the psychotype of a potential life partner before starting a serious relationship.
