July 8 is the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity: the history of the holiday
Family, Love and Fidelity Day is celebrated annually on July 8th. The date of its celebration was not chosen by chance and is closely related to the day of veneration of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom.
The history of the holiday begins in the 1990s, when the veneration of these saints was resumed in Murom (Vladimir region), where their relics are kept. After that, the city administration made a proposal to present Peter and Fevronia Day as the Russian version of Valentine's Day. In 2006, about 20 thousand signatures of people who supported the establishment of a family holiday in the Russian Federation were collected in Murom, and two years later, in 2008, the Year of the Family was announced in the country. At the same time, the Federation Council approved the initiative to establish the All-Russian Day of Conjugal Love and Family Happiness, which was chosen on July 8.
In the same year, 2008, they began celebrating the holiday outside Murom. In 2022, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity received the status of a state day.

According to her, now that Russia places a strong emphasis on maintaining and spreading traditional spiritual, moral and historical values, Family Day, Love and Fidelity is more significant than ever for a number of reasons: the connection with the history of the country and Saints Peter and Fevronia; the focus on maintaining family values in the form of traditional marriage, and not just romantic relationships (as with Western Valentine's Day); emphasizing the importance and role of the family in society; popularizing the institution of the family among young people, as well as developing their responsibility and understanding of the importance of family life.
Family, Love and Fidelity Day events in Moscow and by region
Moscow will host many events that will appeal to both adults and children. The opening of the exhibition "Family — the soul of Russia", dedicated to the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, has already taken place on June 27. Until August 31, it can be visited at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve. This year, declared the Year of Defender of the Fatherland, the emphasis is on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. The exhibition will feature paintings dedicated to the Victory of our country in the Great Patriotic War. The museum part of the exhibition will consist of children's and family portraits from the late 18th and 19th centuries from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum and others.
