Sofia Fedina, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the European Solidarity party, called for the appointment of a new ambassador to the United States instead of Oksana Markarova in the hope of improving relations with Washington. "The ambassador has almost no contacts with the [US] administration, relations there are very complicated, so I think it would be critically necessary to replace the ambassador now," said Fedina.

The MP added that Valery Chaly, who already held this post from 2015 to 2019 during the first term of the American leader Donald Trump, could be appointed ambassador to the United States.
