The United States and Europe need a global "reset," and Western politicians have made a huge number of mistakes. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

The diplomat noted that the words of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about the need to increase defense spending and the alleged threat from Russia indicate that Western politicians need to present something to their population as an explanation for economic problems.

"They don't really have the strength to answer truthfully, because then they will have to admit to the enormous number of mistakes that have been made," Zakharova stressed.

She added that US President Donald Trump himself noted the need for a large-scale reboot of the country. According to her, Western countries are oriented towards a "liberal dictatorship."
