- The expert spoke about the possibility of saving money on replacing radiators in the summer
The summer period is the optimal time to replace radiators: equipment prices are decreasing, and installation teams are less busy. On June 17, Fyodor Vasiliev, an expert on building materials and founder of GLAVSNAB, told Izvestia how to choose and install heating devices correctly in order to save money and avoid common mistakes.
From May to August, the demand for radiators drops by 20-30%, which makes this period the most profitable for purchase. Vasiliev recommends paying attention to the remnants of past collections — they are often sold at a discount of 20-40% while maintaining technical characteristics. When buying from 10 sections, you can count on a wholesale discount of 7-10%, and ordering your own delivery instead of store services will save 3-5 thousand rubles.
"The choice of radiator type depends on the heating system. Bimetallic models that can withstand pressures up to 25-35 atmospheres are suitable for apartments with central heating," the specialist said.
Cast-iron radiators, he said, although reliable, are much heavier and slower to heat up. Aluminum options are not recommended for central systems due to the risk of leaks.
When choosing an installation team, it is important to get several suggestions, compare reviews and clarify what is included in the cost of work. Vasiliev warns about the common practice of adding "unforeseen work" during the installation process and recommends requesting a detailed estimate.
In summer, it is also convenient to update the painting of radiators. The process includes removing old paint with a construction hair dryer, treating it with an anti-corrosion compound, and applying two or three layers of heat-resistant enamel. Alkyd formulations (300-500 rubles/kg) are the best choice in terms of price and quality, while acrylic paints (from 800 rubles/kg) belong to the premium segment.
"The right approach to choosing and installing radiators in summer allows you not only to save money, but also to avoid problems during the heating season," Vasiliev emphasizes.
The expert advises not to postpone the replacement until the fall, when prices rise and installation teams are working in an emergency mode.
Earlier, on March 19, Vasiliev told Izvestia that the construction of a turnkey private house in 2025 would cost Russians 40-55 thousand rubles per 1 sq. m. This is an average indicator, since the price depends, among other things, on the region, the materials used, and the workload of construction crews.
