Production of key components for UAVs has been launched in Russia, sources in the defense industry told Izvestia. This will make it possible to promptly deliver components to customers without complicated logistics chains, simplify and speed up the assembly of drones. Thanks to this, we will remove a huge share of dependence of the entire domestic production of smart electronics for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on supplies from Southeast Asia, experts believe. Key nodes for Russian-made UAVs
In Russia launched the first large-scale production of key components for UAVs, which has no domestic analogs. A source in the defense industry told Izvestia. This will allow for prompt delivery of components to customers without complex logistics chains, simplify and speed up the assembly of UAVs.
- One of Rostec's enterprises has mastered the production of navigation modules and controllers for engines of different power. Flight controllers for small UAVs are on the way. All of this is completely domestic development, a worthy substitute for imported "stuffing". This is exactly the import substitution that we have been waiting for," said the interlocutor.
The press service of Rostec confirmed the information to Izvestia and added: "We have our own developments, which have been completed and put into mass production in a short period of time. There is no need to explain the relevance, the country's demand for such products is very high. Thanks to engineering solutions, the products can be integrated into the design of drones from different manufacturers as quickly as possible."
Another Rostec interlocutor familiar with the details of the project said that the production is being carried out at the facilities of the subsidiary holding Roselectronics.
- The company's specialists have created a navigation module that ensures high accuracy of the drone's positioning in the air and allows it to orient itself both by satellites and by ground base stations of mobile communications," a company employee told Izvestia.
Different types of engine controllers are also being produced now - for UAVs with payloads of up to 10 kg and up to 25 kg, the interlocutor noted. They can be integrated into the design of not only air, but also land or marine drones. A flight controller has also been developed for small UAVs. The device can operate in harsh operating conditions - it provides triple redundancy of the main elements of telemetry and sensors.
How import substitution will affect the creation of drones
Drones have become an indispensable tool during a special military operation, military expert Alexei Leonkov noted in a conversation with Izvestia.
- Our fighters on the line of contact need drones in large quantities now," he said. - And both reconnaissance UAVs and attack UAVs, repeaters, kamikaze drones. And all of them have key nodes. Our fighters made something for them on the battle line with the help of 3D printers. But larger and more complex drones, particularly reconnaissance drones, which give target designations to our firepower, require a more serious approach. Therefore, Rostec's launch of mass production of major assemblies of domestic components for UAVs is a necessary measure.
In addition, drones are now coming to us not only on the line of contact, but also to the troops, the expert specified.
- At the board of the Ministry of Defense, which was at the end of last year, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief instructed to create a separate type of armed forces related to unmanned aerial vehicles and robotic complexes. This means that the need for drones will soon become even higher, because there will be units that will need a large number of UAVs," he explained.
The release of our own navigation universal platform, which will take into account both satellite navigation systems and cellular base stations, is something we have been waiting for more than 10 years. Military expert Dmitry Kornev told Izvestia about it.
- Its main consumers will be manufacturers of serious weapon systems, i.e. cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and any navigation systems for the armed forces. Manufacturers of domestic UAVs are also expecting this platform, which will have completely different capabilities. And we will remove a huge share of dependence of the entire domestic production of smart electronics for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on supplies from Southeast Asia," he summarized.
Complex for the protection of residential neighborhoods and industrial facilities from UAVs
Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that the complex zonal radar defense against drones, developed by Chelyabinsk radio plant "Polet" (part of the AIS holding of the state corporation "Rostec"), was successfully tested at mass urban events. This was reported to Izvestia by Rostec State Corporation.
The novelty is able to cover an area of several square kilometers. It is based on the complex of detection and suppression of drones "Sphere".

It has already proved its effectiveness on the line of contact in the combat zone of the North Caucasus Defense Forces. The equipment installed on the vehicle neutralized more than 10 enemy drones, which is confirmed by extracts from the combat log.
Last November, the Sfera-MB complex was tested at a research institute of the Russian Defense Ministry. The military department included it in the register of recommended products that effectively counter UAVs.
