- In the Gaza Strip, 212 bodies have been pulled from the rubble since the beginning of the fighting
Since the beginning of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, 212 bodies have been removed from under the rubble. This was reported by Al Jazeera TV channel on Thursday, January 23.
"Rescuers in Gaza are trying to extract bodies from under the ruins of destroyed houses. 212 bodies have been extracted since the end of hostilities," the publication said.
The TV channel noted that civilians who will return to the destroyed neighborhoods will face serious difficulties before they manage to restore their usual way of life.
According to Al Jazeera, at least 47,107 Palestinians have been killed since the fighting began. Another 111,147 have been injured.
Earlier, on January 19, a ceasefire began to operate in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the Palestinian movement Hamas handed over to representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) three Israeli hostages - Romy Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher. The next day, Israel released the first 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
The Palestinians intend to return the borders between the two countries that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, with possible land swaps. Palestine wants to establish its state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel refuses these conditions.
