US President Donald Trump has initiated the process of re-recognition of the ruling Shiite movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) in the north of Yemen as a foreign terrorist organization. This was stated in a statement published on the White House website on January 23.

"The President's Executive Order launches the process by which the group "Ansar Allah", also known as the Houthis, will be recognized as a foreign terrorist organization," - informed the press service of the administration.

It is specified that back in 2021, President Trump declared the Iranian-backed Houthis a foreign terrorist organization. However, within a month after taking office, the administration of former US President Joe Biden lifted these sanctions.

Following the re-designation of the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization, the executive order also directs the administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the secretary of state to jointly vet UN partners, non-governmental organizations, and contractors working in Yemen.

Earlier, on January 14, Pavel Feldman, a professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, said that under Biden's rule, even Yemeni Houthis attacking American-flagged ships are not afraid of the United States. According to him, the American leader's entourage has created an artificial reality for him in order to manipulate "a dementia-stricken veteran of the political scene."
