- The Russian Armed Forces will have units to protect military infrastructure from UAV attacks
Special units are being set up to protect the rear infrastructure from attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). They will be engaged in air defense of warehouses, storage bases and arsenals against the background of more frequent strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) against such facilities, sources in the military department told Izvestiya.
Now our facilities are attacked, as a rule, by UAVs of the Lyuty and Bober types, military expert Dmitry Kornev noted in a conversation with Izvestia.
"These are low-flying vehicles that can be destroyed by any means of air defense of infantry units. Including individual means, MANPADS, machine guns, assault rifles and similar firepower," he explained.
It was necessary to create such units a long time ago, because as early as 2023 it became clear that the enemy will strike with the help of drones more and more often, military expert Yuri Lyamin said.
"SAMs are not enough for all objects and it is very expensive to fire missiles at all drones. In addition, the missile can also deviate from the target and there will be at least a small but unnecessary collateral damage. It is necessary to develop laser systems against drones", - said the expert.
