Winter snowfall in the United States, which hit Texas and the northern Gulf Coast with record snowfall, has spread to parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. The Associated Press (AP) reported on January 22.

Dangerous sub-zero temperatures with even colder wind chills are expected to linger in the region for most of the week. According to authorities, three people have died from the cold.

"We're expecting winter weather that we're not used to in Northeast Florida. The safest place to be Tuesday night and Wednesday is home!", the Jacksonville, Florida, Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook (owned by recognized extremist company Meta, its activities are banned in Russia).

Jacksonville International Airport closed due to bad weather on the evening of Tuesday, January 21. Work is reportedly scheduled to resume at noon on January 22. Schools canceled classes and government offices were closed.

Blizzard conditions are expected in eastern North Carolina, according to the AP.

Earlier, January 7, NBC News reported on the deaths of at least four people as a result of a winter storm that hit the central part of the United States. A resident of Texas died of hypothermia, a 61-year-old resident of Missouri died due to a fatal injury sustained while shoveling snow, and in the state of Kansas, two people died in a weather-related accident.

Before that, on January 5, the TV channel SNN warned about possible record snowfalls during the storm in the United States. It is noted that snowfall and icy conditions are already observed in the central part of the country. As indicated by the TV channel, the amount of snowfall in some areas reached 35 cm, and the thickness of ice - 70 cm.

On the same day in Washington entered the state of emergency in connection with the impending snowstorm. Mayor Muriel Bowser urged residents to remove cars from emergency routes and stay at home. She also added that all schools in the city would be closed on January 6.
