TOS-1A "Solntsepek" hit AFU strongholds in Kursk region
Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense (RCDBZ) units of the Tula Guards Airborne Troops in the TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems, supporting assault units of Tula and Ryazan paratroopers, hit strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the border areas of the Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 22.
Under the cover of darkness, the Solntsepek drove towards the AFU positions and worked on the targets with 220-millimeter thermobaric shells. When hitting the target, the munition ignites an explosive mixture.
The targets were monitored and corrected by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) calculations, which transmitted the results to the command post in real time.
After accomplishing the combat task, the TOS-1A Solntsepek calculation carried out a change of positions in the shortest possible time and promptly reloaded the installations.
"The crew is well-coordinated, yes, the guys already know everything. Already as a year we have been working with their machine, we work very quickly. That is, from stopping the vehicle at the firing position to launching the first shell, it takes two minutes at most. The vehicle is based on a T-72 tank, so it's passable, fast, it goes everywhere, we get to the position quickly by time," said the commander of the flamethrower platoon with the call sign Dobrynya.
On the eve of the Ministry of Defense reported that the losses of the AFU in Kursk region amounted to more than 270 servicemen for the day. The enemy units were hit in the areas of 11 settlements. In addition, the strikes of operational-tactical and army aviation and artillery fire hit the enemy's manpower and equipment in the areas of 12 settlements.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the President of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
