- Governor Anokhin reported the repulsion of a drone attack over the Smolensk region
The air defense forces of the Russian Defense Ministry have repelled an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on facilities in the Smolensk Region. This was reported by the governor of the region Vasily Anokhin on Tuesday, January 21.
"On the ground and on the roofs of individual buildings, roof fires were noted as a result of falling UAV debris. The windows of residential buildings have also been damaged. Operational services are working at the scene," Anokhin wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to preliminary information of the regional Ministry of Health, there are no casualties, Anokhin added.
Earlier, on January 18, Anokhin reported the elimination of five UAVs over the Smolensk region. Anokhin specified that no one was injured as a result of the fall of UAV fragments. He also added that there was no destruction.
Prior to that, on January 17, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian air defense means destroyed seven Ukrainian drones in the sky over the Bryansk region.
Ukrainian militants are trying to strike Russian territories against the backdrop of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
