- NYT has learned that U.S. officials recognize that Russia retains the liberated territories
Most US officials recognize that Russia will retain the liberated territories when settling the conflict in Ukraine. The New York Times(NYT) writes about this on January 18.
"Most officials of [current U.S. President Joe] Biden and [American leader-elect Donald] Trump recognize, at least privately, that Russia is likely to keep its troops in about 20 percent of Ukraine," the publication noted.
Earlier in the day, the Daily Express reported that Russia in the long term will be the only winner in the conflict in Ukraine. It is noted that now the Kiev regime is rapidly losing servicemen and territories, so openly advocates the settlement of the conflict.
Before that, on January 17, a former adviser to the head of the Pentagon, retired US Army Colonel Douglas McGregor said that Russia has already won the conflict in Ukraine. Prior to that, on January 10, military expert Alexei Leonkov told Izvestia about the West's understanding that Ukraine has already lost in the conflict with Russia, despite continued EU assistance.
On December 5, 2024, former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter said that Ukraine's Armed Forces (AFU) are on the verge of collapse and are falling apart. The Ukrainian military, he said, has begun to surrender to the Russian military in unprecedented numbers.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
