The attitude of Western countries towards Russia has changed significantly. This was reported on January 18 by Andrei Klimov, deputy chairman of the Federation Council (FC) Committee on International Affairs.

"When Germany's largest opposition party "AdG" tried to introduce hints of an anti-Russian position, two-thirds of the congress participants resisted it. And this is not because they have become Russophiles, but because even in Germany there is a growing understanding that normalization of relations with Russia is necessary in order not to lose the status of the locomotive of the European economy. In particular, this situation may indicate a change in attitude," Klimov said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

According to him, Russia is winning not only in the conflict in Ukraine, but also in economic, political and humanitarian terms. In addition, support for anti-Russian projects in the European Parliament is noticeably decreasing.

Klimov also drew attention to the changing positions of some European politicians who do not want to miss out on the benefits of cooperation with Russia.

Before that, on January 17, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called on the EU to "throw sanctions out the window" and establish relations with Russia. In his opinion, the EU will have to adapt to the new era when US President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House, as well as to establish sanctions-free relations with Russia.

Earlier, on January 10, the US and the UK expanded sanctions against Russia. The list included Gazprom Neft and its head Alexander Dyukov, Surgutneftegaz, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev, and 100 Russian tankers.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the restrictions, drew attention to the fact that Washington is trying to undermine the positions of Russian energy companies with the help of sanctions. He emphasized that Rosatom is one of the leaders of the global nuclear market and will continue its work despite any restrictions.
