The situation in Mongolia after the past protests is calm, the country continues normal life, the unrest has passed quite peacefully, Russian Ambassador to Ulaanbaatar Alexei Yevsikov told Izvestia.

"The peak [of the protests] came on January 11, Saturday, when the number of protesters amounted to about 3,000 people. Utilities, transportation are working in a normal mode. Parliament has begun its final week before the fall session closes on January 17. The government is engaged in routine activities," he said.

As of January 13, single picketers were still meeting, but their actions were not of mass character, the ambassador added. Russian citizens have not applied to the embassy for help in connection with the protests. At the moment, Mongolia is entering a responsible period of realization of major economic and infrastructure projects planned by the government for the next four years, the diplomat explained.

"The effect [of the projects] is expected to give a strong impetus to the Mongolian economy. Citizens are expecting the creation of new energy capacities so that there will be no power outages, the start of construction of subways and new highways in Ulaanbaatar. The mandate of trust given to the current authorities in the parliamentary and local elections held last June and October speaks for itself," the Ambassador emphasized.

On January 11, protests were held in Mongolia. The demonstrators, who accuse the authorities of failing to fight smog and unemployment, blocked the central Peace Avenue in the capital, Ulaanbaatar.
