Dry skin in winter is caused by low temperatures and reduced humidity. In order to cope with it, you need to drink more water and monitor external factors. This was reported on January 15 by dermatologist, trichologist "SM-Kosmetology" Sofia Belash in a conversation with "Gazeta.ru".

"Pay attention to the water balance. Drinking enough water is important to keep the skin hydrated from the inside out. In the winter months it is worth increasing fluid intake, as in winter we often do not notice how the body loses moisture," Belash reported.

She specified that you should also keep an eye on the overall temperature and humidity in the room, because if the conditions are not right, the skin condition can deteriorate dramatically.

"Keep the room humidified. Install a humidifier in your home to increase humidity levels. This will help prevent moisture from evaporating quickly from the skin's surface and improve its overall condition," said the dermatologist.

In addition, according to the doctor, improper cosmetics and poor skin care products can make the skin drier. According to Belash, people need to use moisturizing creams that contain hyaluronic acid, glycerin and various oils. And to make these products work better, it's worth keeping in mind the process of exfoliating the skin. It can allow the creams to penetrate into the deeper layers and moisturize them more effectively.

The doctor also recommended using protective products such as lip balms. She also reported that the problem of increased dryness of the skin is quite common in winter, so if it is constantly manifested, it is worth to consult a dermatologist for optimal selection of therapy.

Earlier, on December 26 last year, Natalya Mikhailova, candidate of medical sciences, dermatovenerologist, scientific director of the company MARTINEX, told "Izvestia" about the protection of facial skin during frosty weather. According to her, extreme temperatures, both high and low, cause moisture loss, as well as changes in the composition and activity of skin cells. Alas, the damaged cells then need a long recovery.
