Alexandra Andrianova, Associate Researcher at the Department of Borderline Mental Disorders Treatment and Psychotherapy No. 9 at the V.M. Bekhterev National Medical Center for Psychiatry and Neurology of the Russian Ministry of Health, told Izvestia on January 6.

She emphasized that effective planning includes awareness of one's emotions, realistic goal setting, implementation of achievement practices and self-support to reduce the risk of disappointment.

Before making plans, you should take time to understand your feelings and write down what bothers or pleases you in the current year, Andrianova advised.

"Set realistic and achievable goals. Understanding your limits is a key aspect. Prioritize and take into account your physical and emotional resources," the doctor stated.

She said it is also important to divide your goals into short-term and long-term and focus on "small steps" first, which will help you move more confidently towards bigger goals and reduce the risk of disappointment.

You should also make time to regularly evaluate your emotions and progress. For example, you can keep a diary or discuss your plans with a close friend. In this way, a person becomes more objective in their expectations.

"Make it a practice: every month or week, celebrate your achievements, even the smallest ones. This will help you shift your focus to positive moments and reduce the likelihood of disappointments," Andrianova recommended.

She pointed out the importance of a constructive attitude to failures and advised to develop strategies of self-support: this is meditation, hobbies, sports.

"Accept that not everything will go according to plan. It is important to take steps to see failure as an opportunity for learning, not as a final defeat," the doctor summarized.

Earlier, on December 31, Maria Kiseleva, director of the Institute of Psychological and Social Work at Sechenov University, spoke to Izvestia about ways to follow useful habits and implement them in life.
