The scientist spoke about ways to regulate the global climate

Theoretically, humanity has several ways to influence global climate processes, but their implementation can lead to dangerous and irreversible consequences. "Izvestia" was informed about this by Nathan Eismont, a leading researcher at the Department of Space Dynamics and Mathematical Information Processing at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

A strong El Nino could lead to a sharp increase in deaths.

According to the scientist, artificial dusting of the atmosphere may be one of the possible ways to influence the climate. A similar effect was observed after large volcanic eruptions, when particles in the atmosphere led to a temporary decrease in temperature.

"It really works, as shown by the local cooling in Europe in the late Middle Ages due to a volcanic eruption. It caused hunger, and nothing good came of it," the source said.

Among other historical and scientific projects, the specialist highlighted the change in the direction of the northern rivers and the possible impact on the Gulf Stream. However, in his opinion, such interventions can have unpredictable consequences.

Another option, the scientist called the placement of giant mirrors in orbit that could redirect some of the sunlight. Such a project will require solving complex technical problems and significant financial costs.

At the same time, if such technologies are nevertheless decided to be implemented, their creation and placement in orbit may take about five years.
