- Likhachev announced the readiness of the "Akkuyu" NPP power unit control center for operation.
The control center for the first power unit of "Akkuyu" nuclear power plant, which is being built in Turkey with the participation of Russia, is fully operational. This was announced on September 20 by Alexey Likhachev, CEO of "Rosatom" State Corporation, during a working visit to the facility.
The head of the company inspected the block control room (BPU), which is a key node of the power unit. The workplaces of the shift supervisor, the operators of the reactor plant and the turbine department are located here. According to Likhachev, all the necessary parameters are already displayed on the digital screens of the control unit, which allows the staff to practice the skills of managing a specific facility.
"The main work takes place here at the control unit. And it is already clear that this is a block of a working station, not one under construction. All parameters are displayed on digital screens, management and decision—making take place, and staff gain skills to work at a specific facility," Likhachev stressed, as quoted by "RIA Novosti".
"Rosatom" clarified that the equipment of the first power unit is being consistently transferred to the mode of a single technological system. Specialists have already started the main circulation pumps after completing the first stage of hydraulic testing. Currently, the systems are being prepared for cold-hot running—in, which is a key stage in checking the reactor plant before starting operation.
The head of the state corporation noted that the first priority is to obtain an operating license.
"Our task is to complete this stage as soon as possible, enter licensing, obtain an operating license, and, accordingly, begin launch operations by the end of the year," Likhachev said.
During the visit, the CEO was also presented with a report on the current construction status of all major facilities at the station. The "Akkuyu" project is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and is being built according to a Russian project using four power units with VVER-1200 reactors.
On August 4, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that electricity production at the first power unit of "Akkuyu" NPP is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026. Bayraktar said that before putting the NPP into operation, about 2 thousand inspections must be carried out as part of the preparation. According to him, the tests of the facility are ongoing.
""Likhachev said on April 21 that Rosatom's priority task was to start up the power plant, connect it to the grid and provide electricity at the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP"". According to him, the Turkish contractors and "Rosatom" will do everything to make this year the year of Turkey's acquisition of nuclear energy.
