Chekunkov noted the ability of the TTC to connect Europe and Asia in a new way
The Transarctic Transport Corridor (TTC) will allow connecting Europe and Asia in a new way, as well as entering unexplored foreign markets. Alexey Chekunkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, told Izvestia correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky on September 1.
"The Transarctic transport Corridor is a new formula that, firstly, connects the Far East and the Arctic, and practically connects the whole of Russia. But his ambitions are even greater — to link Asia with Europe in a new way, using a shorter, more efficient logistics route. <...> The implementation of the TTC will allow us <...> open up whole new export niches, occupy new world markets," Chekunkov told Izvestia on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).
The results of the operations expected to take a shorter and more efficient route, as the minister explained, will have a positive impact on the economy of the Arctic and the entire Far East. According to him, work is already underway and is almost being completed on the comprehensive development of the initiative, which contains about 300 investment projects worth more than 30 trillion rubles.
The head of the Ministry of Regional Development drew attention to the fact that there is now great interest in the TTK from foreign partners. North Korea, India, Indonesia and even the countries of the Middle East are already considering transportation of goods along the highway.
"There is a documented intention of the People's Republic of China to achieve cargo turnover in the NSR (small business entities. — Ed.) 20 million tons by 2030. This is a very sharp increase, I would say explosive," he concluded.
On the same day, in an interview with Izvestia, Chekunkov spoke about the progress of work on the TTK. In the future, the project, he said, will link all major infrastructure initiatives.
