The United States noted Canada's extreme retaliatory measures in trade

Canada remains the only country that has imposed retaliatory trade restrictions against the United States. This was announced on August 26 by U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer.

"Canada is the only country besides China that is taking retaliatory measures against us, but even with China, we have, in general, settled our differences. So, in fact, at the moment it concerns only Canada," he said in a conversation with the Canadian radio station CBC News.

The U.S. representative cited restrictions on the sale of American alcoholic beverages, as well as measures affecting the volume of car shipments from the United States to Canada, as examples of Ottawa's retaliatory steps. He described these actions as "quite radical."

Greer noted that trade differences between countries can usually be resolved over time through negotiations and compromise. However, according to him, this has not yet been achieved in the situation with Canada.

Trump decided to influence Iran through its partners, which the Islamic Republic regarded as economic terrorism.

The United States re-imposed 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods on August 22. According to Greer, the Canadian side rejected an offer that would have allowed Ottawa to improve the position of its exporters in the American market.

Amid escalating trade disputes between Washington and Ottawa, US President Donald Trump posted a video on TikTok on August 27, showing a map on which he personally renamed Lake Ontario Lake America. At the end of his demonstration, the American leader added that the geographical feature under the former name no longer exists, and urged the audience to get used to the new name.
