Reuters has learned about the transfer to the US Congress of the agreement with Riyadh in the nuclear field

US President Donald Trump has sent to Congress a draft agreement with Saudi Arabia on cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. At the same time, Washington intends to implement the deal after the normalization of relations between Riyadh and Tel Aviv. This was reported on August 25 by the Reuters news agency, citing a representative of the American administration.

"Trump sent to Congress a draft agreement with Saudi Arabia on nuclear energy, but said that Riyadh should recognize Israel," the publication says.

According to the agency, the document was submitted to Congress on Monday, August 24, where it will be considered within 90 working days.

A representative of the United States administration said that Trump's position on this issue has not changed. According to him, the nuclear agreement will enter into force only if Saudi Arabia joins the Abraham Accords, an initiative aimed at establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and a number of Arab countries.

The agreement on cooperation in the nuclear field is designed for 30 years. It provides for the construction of AP1000 nuclear reactors.

Vasily Ostanin-Golovnya, a researcher at the Department of the Middle and Post-Soviet East at the INION RAS, said on July 23 that the agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia on the construction of a nuclear power plant in the kingdom, if approved by the American Congress, would be one of the most significant changes in Washington's Middle East policy in recent years. He noted that this is not just about building a nuclear power plant, in fact, Washington is ready for the first time to allow the possibility of uranium enrichment in Saudi Arabia, although under American control.
