The energy crisis can make life in Ukrainian cities unbearable during the winter months. This was reported by the Berliner Zeitung newspaper on August 12.

"Last winter, residents of Kiev were forced to live in apartments where the indoor temperature dropped to -10 degrees. <...> This year the situation may be even worse, and many large cities in Ukraine may become uninhabitable," the publication says.

Igor Yushkov, a leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund and an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, said on August 11 that while Russia is not systematically destroying electric power facilities in Ukraine, but is focusing on port infrastructure, one wave of strikes on key substations may be enough to plunge the country into a blackout. According to him, in previous years, waves of strikes were inflicted on substations and power plants, but currently there is no such campaign, there are no mass blackouts in Kiev and other cities.
