The newly elected head of the German city of Freiberg, Philipp Preisler, staged a brawl in a Leipzig hotel and injured two policemen during his arrest. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on August 9.

According to the newspaper, Preisler trashed a hotel room and threw furniture out of the window. After the police arrived, he resisted, as a result of which two law enforcement officers received minor injuries. The politician was then taken to the hospital for a blood test.

"Just a few weeks ago, Philipp Preisler won an impressive victory in the Freiberg mayoral election, but now his political future hangs in the balance: an incident at a hotel in Leipzig, an investigation into property damage and resisting arrest, as well as a blood test in a hospital," the publication says.

According to Bild, according to preliminary information, at the time of the incident, Preisler could have been under the influence of drugs. An investigation has been launched against him under articles on damage to property and resistance to government officials.

Despite the accusations, Preisler still retains his position legally. However, one of the factions of the city council has already demanded his immediate resignation and new elections.
