The migration crisis has disrupted ferry services between Ceuta and Spain.

The migration crisis in Ceuta on August 1 led to disruptions of ferry services to mainland Spain, and long queues formed at the port of Algeciras. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

"Currently, the communication with Ceuta is not working normally. Many ships do not leave on time, the schedule of some flights is changing, individual flights are combined," the agency quotes an employee of the port.

Many ships do not depart on schedule, and some flights combine. The violations also affected flights from Algeciras to Morocco. Traffic is complicated by increased control: the police stop some people at the border and do not allow passage. Passengers have to wait for departure for several hours.

The outflow of people from Ceuta has created an additional burden on the port. Many tourists decided to leave the city by ferry for safety reasons, as well as due to the closure of some restaurants, supermarkets and pharmacies.

The countries of the union have already started talking about suspending Schengen with Madrid after the invasion of refugees into the Spanish exclave.

The invasion of refugees was recorded on July 30 in Spain after the authorities decided to suspend the operation of the only operating border crossing in the city of Melilla in northern Africa. More than 60 thousand illegal immigrants were able to reach Spanish Ceuta. Madrid mobilized the military and police, who began using tear gas against the arrivals. As of August 1, 61 migrants died while trying to cross the border.

The situation has seriously worried Europe. So, von der Leyen demanded the immediate expulsion of migrants and called the incident dangerous. Meanwhile, Italy has suspended the Schengen Agreement with Spain, and France has increased security at its border. Defensive structures began to be installed in Ceuta itself.
