An underground power supply cable exploded on one of the central streets of Yerevan due to increased load on the power system. This was announced on July 31 by Romanos Petrosyan, Interim Manager of the Electric Networks of Armenia Company.

"Due to the hot weather conditions, the load on energy consumption is increasing this season, which inevitably leads to accidents of overhead lines and cables in the distribution network," Petrosyan wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

It is specified that the accident occurred in the Kentron administrative district. The company's on-duty units are carrying out emergency recovery work at the scene.

Malta's capital Valletta was left without electricity on July 21 amid the ongoing heat wave that came to the country from Western Europe. The state-owned energy company Enemalta said the power outages were caused by faults in the distribution network due to extreme temperatures and record electricity demand.
