Zakharova recalled Trump's repeated promises to end the conflict in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump has promised more than 80 times to end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours, but no one believes it except himself. This was announced on July 23 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
The diplomat responded to a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, made after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Rubio commented that it is impossible to resolve the Ukrainian issue in 30 minutes of negotiations.
"No one thought so. But everyone remembers how more than 80 times US President Donald Trump promised to end the conflict in Ukraine in 24 hours, and then praised the Anchorage summit," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov and Rubio met at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Manila, Philippines. It lasted 35 minutes. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry told the American Secretary of State about the real state of affairs on the line of combat contact in Ukraine. Lavrov drew Rubio's attention to Moscow's willingness to resolve the conflict through diplomacy. The Secretary of State, in turn, called the talks frank and good, but stated the need to find "new ideas" on Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that against the background of the last meeting between Lavrov and Rubio, there is no need to talk about the new dynamics of the conflict settlement in Ukraine. Peskov added that "one should not indulge in excessive optimism," even despite the contacts between Rubio and Lavrov.
