A third of Russian car buyers are going to bring a car from abroad

Among Russians who plan to buy a car in 2026, almost one in three is considering moving a car from abroad. On July 24, experts from the <url> financial marketplace told Izvestia about this, who conducted a survey of 3,000 citizens of the country.

Thus, 31% of the respondents are considering the option of transporting a car from abroad, and 38% are going to buy a used car on the Russian market. 19% replied that they were considering buying a new car from an authorized dealer, while 12% were interested in new cars imported under alternative import schemes.

According to the survey results, China turned out to be the most popular destination for buying a car — 44% of respondents considering a transfer chose it. Japan is in second place (23%), followed by South Korea (16%), Europe (9%) and the CIS countries (5%), with another 3% considering other countries.

54% of the study participants immediately cited a more favorable cost compared to analogues in the domestic market as the reason for choosing to drive a car from abroad. Another 47% believe that more interesting models and trim levels are available abroad, while 39% want to purchase a car from a brand that is not officially represented in Russia.

The most popular cars, according to the study, were crossovers with a capacity of up to 160 hp (58% of respondents). When choosing a drive, most buyers focus on versatility — 57% preferred all-wheel drive. The majority of potential buyers expect to purchase a car worth from 2 million to 3 million rubles (35%), another 27% are ready to spend from 3 million to 5 million rubles.

Among the main concerns about moving from another country were the fear of fraud (49%), the inability to estimate the total purchase price in advance (43%) and difficulties with paperwork (36%). 39% of respondents plan to pay for the purchase entirely from their own funds, and another 34% are going to apply for a car loan.

The majority of Russians prefer to turn to professionals for car distillation: 61% are ready to entrust the transaction to a specialized company, 16% to a private distiller. The rest plan to do the registration themselves or rely on the help of friends. At the same time, Russians are ready to wait for a car for a long time. 46% said a delivery time of one to two months was acceptable, while 27% were willing to wait up to three months.
