The doctor named the reasons for the increase in intraocular pressure
Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, KDC NCC No. 2 of the Russian National Research Medical Center. Academician of B.V. Petrovsky, Candidate of Medical Sciences Shakhlo Makhkamova told why intraocular pressure increases. In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, July 22, the specialist noted that increased intraocular pressure is one of the main signs of glaucoma, so ophthalmologists recommend regularly checking not only blood pressure, but also eye pressure.
The exact causes of glaucoma have not yet been established. According to the doctor, the disease is considered multifactorial and develops under the influence of several causes at once. Hereditary predisposition, age-related changes and impaired outflow of intraocular fluid are considered the main risk factors. If close relatives have had glaucoma, the likelihood of the disease increases. With age, the drainage system of the eye works worse, which is why fluid begins to accumulate and intraocular pressure increases.
At the same time, the specialist noted that the pressure may not increase all the time. During the examination, the indicators often remain within the normal range, although changes in the optic nerve are already occurring. That is why glaucoma is difficult to detect at an early stage, and regular examinations by an ophthalmologist are especially important.
Ophthalmologist Angelina Kazantseva warned that distortion of lines and letters, tunnel vision, sudden blurred vision in one eye and a sharp deterioration in vision, especially with hypertension or diabetes, require urgent medical attention. Such symptoms may indicate glaucoma, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, central retinal vein thrombosis, or arterial occlusion. 360.ru .
In June, in a large-scale study, Chinese scientists found that intense artificial lighting in the evening significantly increases the risk of developing age-related eye diseases. It is emphasized that the light in the hours before going to bed turned out to be the most dangerous: the relationship of illumination at night with eye pathologies was not revealed.
In March, ophthalmologist Anna Semenova warned that the main danger of glaucoma is that it is almost impossible to identify it at an early stage on your own. Patients with high degree of myopia, diabetes mellitus and hypertension should be especially attentive, the website writes. kp.ru .
At the same time, ophthalmologist Alexander Maksyashin said that signs of glaucoma can be poor lateral vision, blurred vision or halos around illuminated objects. The disease is dangerous because patients have no pain or discomfort with it, writes NSN.
Ophthalmologist Igor Popov said in November that diabetic retinopathy can lead to blindness. Such damage to the retina develops due to diabetes mellitus and is one of the most serious complications, RT notes.
