Anastasia Cardiakos, a family psychologist, warned that being in an unhealthy relationship kills the psyche. In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, July 13, the expert noted that relationships built on sarcasm, ridicule and constant depreciation gradually deprive a person of self-confidence.

According to her, in such conditions, a person ceases to understand what a healthy relationship should be, and begins to live not by his own feelings, but by constantly calculating his partner's reactions. The psychologist emphasized that toxic relationships distort the sense of normality.

Cardiakos explained that in a long—term relationship with an emotionally immature partner — narcissistic, abusive or infantile - a person begins to doubt their own adequacy. Instead of trusting one's feelings, there is constant self-examination and a desire to find a way to build an understandable dialogue in which both sides will be heard.

In addition, attention shifts from their own needs to attempts to predict their partner's behavior: a person is constantly thinking about what to say, what is best to avoid and how not to provoke irritation. According to Cardiakos, this is a defensive reaction that further distances a person from their own feelings. She explained that regular depreciation causes a feeling of helplessness, because, trusting a loved one, people partially associate their self-esteem with him and during rejection it inevitably decreases.

The psychologist added that over time, the sense of normality blurs: humiliation and sarcasm begin to be perceived as a familiar part of the relationship, and the threshold of acceptable gradually increases. According to her, the psyche gets used to exist under constant pressure and learns to survive in such conditions.

In March, psychologist Maya Golubeva explained the essence of "breadcrumbling," a new term in the field of online dating. This is an unhealthy relationship model in which one person only occasionally pays attention to the other, avoids talking about a future together, and does not determine the status of the relationship. Most often, this behavior is associated with self-doubt and a desire to maintain self-esteem at the expense of other people's attention, notes 360.ru .

In January, clinical psychologist Anastasia Loktionova, in a conversation with NSN, stated that all abusers behave according to the same pattern, which has long been known, but it all starts with the little things. The first and main "red flag" in a man is disrespect for a woman's boundaries and an inadequate reaction to her "no" for any reason.

Earlier, psychologist Kristina Tishchenko said that toxic relationships are based on coercion and manipulation, creating a vicious circle in which partners complement each other, playing on weaknesses. To get out of such a relationship, it is important to recognize that this relationship is not love, notes Pravda.Ru .

Before that, psychologist Anna Lyubushkina talked about the signs of abusive relationships. So, at first the victim is idealized, then tension increases, followed by threats, scandals and insults. At the reconciliation stage, the abuser tries to return the partner and everything repeats, so the specialist advises to seek outside help, writes RT.
