The WSJ learned about the US proposal to unfreeze Iran's reserves in exchange for control of Hormuz

The American side offered Iran to unfreeze assets in exchange for control over the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported on July 2 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

"The United States and Oman are looking for ways to break Iran's insistence on levying duties on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The main lever in the indirect negotiations was the promise to unfreeze part of the $100 billion of Iranian funds stored abroad," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, on Thursday, Tehran made it clear that the reward offered was not enough to change the country's position. After returning from Doha, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib-Abadi said that the strait is under the control of the Iranian authorities, not Washington.

Later in the day, the Iranian military warned that any vessels that do not follow the route approved by the republic will be met with an immediate and decisive response.

Counter risk: Iran may block the Strait of Hormuz again

The fragile agreements between Washington and Tehran are on the verge due to Israel's tough stance.

US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said on June 30 that, in his opinion, there would be no payment for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. He also believes that Washington still has significant instruments of influence on Iran that can help resolve the situation with the Islamic Republic in a direction favorable to American interests.
