- The media learned about the US demand for Iran to maintain the free transit of ships in Hormuz.
During the proximity talks in Doha, the United States informed Iran that it would not tolerate a change in the regime of unhindered and free international transit of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported on July 2 by Al Arabiya TV channel.
Washington told Tehran that any changes to the status quo of the strait would be considered a violation of the agreements reached between the two sides, the sources said.
It is noted that Iran's position on the issue of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is considered by the United States as the main signal of Tehran's commitment to the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18. In the document, the parties set a timeline for when the United States will lift the naval blockade and Iran will restore navigation in the strait.
Progress in lifting the locks on frozen Iranian assets depends on compliance with the points of the memorandum, the sources explained the position of the American side.
US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said on June 30 that, in his opinion, there would be no payment for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. He also believes that Washington still has significant instruments of influence on Iran that can help resolve the situation with the Islamic Republic in a direction favorable to American interests.
