China launches Haiyang-2E oceanographic satellite

China has successfully launched the Haiyang-2E ocean surveillance satellite. This was announced on July 2 by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

"The Long March 4B launch vehicle launched from Jiuquan Cosmodrome, successfully launching the Haiyang-2E satellite into a preset orbit. The launch was successful," follows from the text of the publication.

It is noted that the Haiyang-2E satellite, developed by the Fifth CASC Academy, is designed to protect maritime rights, prevent natural disasters, develop marine resources and conduct scientific research. The device will replace the Haiyang-2B satellite, launched in 2018, and will also join the network with the existing Haiyang-2C and Haiyang-2D devices. Thanks to this, it will ensure the continuous operation of national monitoring services for the marine dynamic environment.

The report indicates that the new satellite has received improved payload technology, which has significantly expanded its surveillance capabilities in coastal waters. The Long March 4B launch vehicle is a three-stage liquid-fueled rocket capable of launching a payload of up to 2.5 tons into a 700 km high sun-synchronous orbit.
