Moscow considers Japan's provision of US missile systems for deployment as a step that poses a threat to the borders of the Russian Federation. This was announced on July 1 at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We consider the provision of Japanese territory for the deployment of American intermediate—range and shorter—range missile systems, regardless of the duration of deployment - on an episodic, rotational or permanent basis — as a step that has a serious negative impact and impact on the stability and security of the Asia-Pacific region and poses a direct threat to Russia's Far Eastern borders," Zakharova said.

The diplomat noted that Tokyo has repeatedly been warned against such destructive decisions, and the deployment of United States weapons in Japan will not remain without compensating measures by Russia aimed at strengthening national defense capability.

The representative of the ministry stressed that Russia is also making efforts to coordinate with partners on issues of maintaining peace in the region.
