- Bloomberg reported a decrease in nuclear power plant power generation in France due to the heat
France's nuclear power plants have reduced electricity production to almost a minimum in nine months due to the heat wave. This was reported on June 29 by the Bloomberg news agency, citing data from the operators of the RTE power grid.
"The heat wave that has engulfed Europe has forced Electricite de France to reduce production, as the rivers are too warm to cool the reactors," the publication says.
It is specified that despite the decrease in air temperature, the rivers still have not cooled down. Due to the high temperature of the reservoirs, the power generation at the nuclear power plant fell below 33 gigawatts. This figure is the lowest since October 5, 2025.
In addition, according to the agency, a possible increase in air temperature next week may create a risk of further restrictions on electricity production.
"EDF, which reviews the restrictions daily, has warned that six nuclear power plants with a total capacity of about 18 gigawatts are under threat. The decrease in electricity generation has also led to a reduction in the country's exports," the article says.
Bloomberg reported on June 16 that an abnormal heat wave in France would lead to "tropical nights" and more frequent use of air conditioners, which would cause electricity prices to rise. Due to the scorching heat, Electricité de France SA may limit electricity generation at nuclear power plants (NPP), including Saint-Alban, where the company is preparing to limit production from June 20.
