Western countries are trying to weaken Russia's sovereignty due to their desire to secure access to logistical routes and resources. This was stated on June 24 by Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board, at a meeting on ensuring the security of the Russian Arctic zone.

"The Arctic is currently turning into an arena of intense rivalry between the world's leading powers," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Patrushev added that it is for this reason that Western countries are purposefully trying to change the balance of power in this region of the World Ocean in their favor.

On March 18, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova drew attention to the fact that the Arctic has become a zone of geopolitical confrontation. According to her, the West continues to adopt anti-Russian sanctions and hinder the development of the Russian Federation in this region. Zakharova stressed that these actions pose threats to the country's security.
