- Israel called it a mistake to include the issue of Lebanon in the negotiations between the United States and Iran.
The inclusion of the issue of settlement in Lebanon in the negotiation process between the United States and Iran is erroneous. This was stated on June 23 by Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
"It is a big mistake to include Iran in the Lebanese-Israeli settlement process," he said.
Herzog said that there are no territorial disputes in Lebanon, so an agreement with the country may be signed soon. He clarified that this arrangement should be hindered by the Hezbollah organization. In addition, the president noted that this aspect of the negotiations worries Israel and it has been conveyed to the American side.
On the same day, the Financial Times newspaper reported that the memorandum signed by the United States and Iran did not include the Israeli side's demands to support pro-Iranian forces and reduce ballistic missiles, the agreement was a strategic disaster for Israel. At the same time, according to the newspaper, the United States is seeking to impose a cease-fire in Lebanon, which has caused protests in Israel. Israeli political strategist Nadav Strauchler said that the agreement with Iran dealt a serious blow to Netanyahu before the October elections.
On June 17, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum on the cessation of hostilities. The document assumes that the parties will agree on the end of the war within 60 days. However, on June 20, Iran again announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to Israel's operation in Lebanon. Because of this, US President Donald Trump threatened to destroy the Islamic Republic.
