Oman and Iran to set up a working group on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

Oman and Iran will set up a working group to discuss navigation management in the Strait of Hormuz. This became known from the joint statement of the two countries published on June 23.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, as coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, confirm their commitment to safe passage through the Strait in accordance with applicable international law," the statement said on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman.

Within the framework of the working group, Iran and Oman will discuss issues related to the services provided for passage and their costs. It is noted that discussions will also be held with coastal States and other interested countries.

The fragile agreements between Washington and Tehran are on the verge due to Israel's tough stance.

On the same day, Press TV reported, citing Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, that Iran and the United States had agreed to create four specialized working groups on conflict resolution issues. The parties also agreed to create a special contact point between the states on the issue of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

On June 17, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum on the cessation of hostilities. The document assumes that the parties will agree on the end of the war within 60 days. However, on June 20, Iran again announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to Israel's operation in Lebanon. Because of this, US President Donald Trump threatened to destroy the Islamic Republic.
