- Russians were told about the timing of the end of the peak of tick activity in Russia
In Russia, the peak of tick activity usually occurs between April and June, but the risk of bites persists until the end of summer. This was announced on June 21 by Lyudmila Strakhova, Deputy Director of the Loss Settlement Department for personal types of insurance at Consent.
"The peak tick season traditionally falls between April and June, but you should be careful in nature until September," she told RIA Novosti.
According to the Insurance Company, at the specified time, ticks are most often found in forests with dense grass, on overgrown roadsides, in ravines or ditches. In addition, there are risks of bites in cemeteries with abundant vegetation, suburban areas bordering forests, as well as in neglected areas.
It is emphasized that to reduce the risk of bites, grass, weeds and shrubs should be mowed regularly, vegetation and debris should not be cluttered, and the area should be treated with special insecticidal agents.
Everyone who works outdoors is most susceptible to bites, including summer residents, gardeners, foresters and tourists, the expert noted. In 63% of cases, people aged 40-50 and over 60 come for research treatment. In addition, in 73% of cases involving ticks, women come to clinics because they love outdoor activities and are often in nature.
The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, reported on June 17 that ticks pose a danger to humans only if they are carriers of viruses. It was noted that the viability of the insect does not matter for the study.
