Iranian delegation arrives in Switzerland for talks with the United States
An Iranian delegation has arrived in Switzerland for talks with the United States. This was announced on June 20 by the confederation's foreign ministry.
"We welcome the arrival of the Iranian delegation in Switzerland. The Iranian delegation is heading to Burgenstock as part of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The US-Iranian memorandum on cessation of hostilities was signed on June 17. Two days later, US President Donald Trump expressed the hope that a final settlement would take place within the next 60 days, otherwise his army would resume bombing the Islamic Republic.
On June 20, The Washington Post pointed to possible attempts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to disrupt the deal. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera TV channel, citing the Lebanese Ministry of Health, said that at least 47 people were killed in strikes by the Israel Defense Forces in southern Lebanon. After that, Iran again announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
American Vice President Jay D. Vance said on June 20 that Tehran's nuclear program and the cease-fire in Lebanon would be the main topics of negotiations in Switzerland.
