Armenia assessed Pashinyan's compliance with EU policy

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan understands European Integration as the spread of anti-Russian sentiments in the republic. This opinion was expressed by the head of the "I have the Honor" faction in the National Assembly of Armenia Hayk Mamidzhanyan on Friday, June 19.

"According to Pashinyan, European integration is a rapprochement with Turkey without taking into account the interests of Armenia and the spread of anti—Russian sentiments among the people of the country," the deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to Mamidzhanyan, so far the Pashinyan government has fulfilled the terms of the main agreement with the European Union (EU) in the field of European integration — the Comprehensive And Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) — only by 50%, although the period from 2021 to 2026 was allocated for the implementation of its provisions. Instead of reforming the legal system or law enforcement agencies, the current authorities are only engaged in the persecution of political opponents, he stressed.

"Pashinyan does absolutely nothing in this regard, and in most cases harms, for example, the level of democracy in our country," the politician concluded.

Opposition leaders have already been banned from leaving the country.

The publication Strategic Culture wrote on June 16 that Pashinyan's policy of distancing himself from Russia did not bring the expected results and put him in a political dead end. It is noted that in the current situation, time is not playing in favor of the Armenian prime minister, and the national interests of Yerevan have actually turned out to be hostages of the chosen course, according to the website. kp.ru .

Earlier, on June 12, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan expressed confidence that the differences that have arisen between Moscow and Yerevan can be resolved through dialogue, RT reports.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin said in April that the aggravation of internal political processes on the eve of the elections in Armenia should not harm relations between Moscow and Yerevan. Pashinyan, in turn, stressed that the construction and strengthening of relations between the two countries will continue regardless of the outcome of the vote in the republic.

Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said on June 3 that the Armenian authorities realize that it will be extremely difficult for the republic without the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Russia. According to the Secretary of the Security Council, Yerevan refuses to hold a referendum on membership in the EAEU due to concerns about European sponsors.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on the same day that Russia was counting on Armenia's "historically correct choice" in the situation with the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. The diplomat expressed the hope that this choice would be in favor of deep and fraternal relations with Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 5 that the Armenian leadership was artificially trying to put the country at a crossroads by offering a choice between integration with Europe and remaining a member of the EAEU.
