NATO fighters eliminated a drone that entered Latvian airspace
NATO fighters shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that was intercepting Latvian airspace. This was announced on June 8 by the press service of the National Armed Forces of the Republic.
"Allied fighters in Latvian airspace successfully shot down a drone entering the airspace," reads a statement on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
It is clarified that an orange warning has now been announced in the country — residents are being asked to take shelter and follow official orders. In case of detection of suspicious low-flying devices, they are urged to report this to the emergency services.
On the same day, another unidentified drone entered the territory of Moldova, where it subsequently detonated in an agricultural area of the Orhei district. It was noted that this device was detected by the surveillance systems of the national army and cross-border cooperation at 00:20 Moscow time.
On May 30, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the General Staff of the Swiss Armed Forces, Ralph Bosshard, predicted impotence for the Baltic countries if Ukraine starts using their airspace to launch its drones. Then he said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky could become a problem even for his most loyal supporters.
Ten days earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian military and special services were closely monitoring the situation with drones in the Baltic States. He added that the states in question are ruled by "rather narrow-minded politicians who are prevented from making sober assessments of what is happening by their "saturation with Russophobia."
