Reshetnikov assessed the Russian labor market

On June 5, Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, said in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026) that despite the complication of the labor market situation, the situation remains positive.

"Our unemployment rate is low, the number of workers under threat of dismissal has increased slightly compared to two years ago, but in general it is far from any such fatal or crisis values," he said.

According to Reshetnikov, the ministry is optimistic about the prospects for economic development. He noted that a new wave of economic growth requires a more active staff flow between industries and companies.

The minister also drew attention to the significant growth in platform employment: more and more Russians are using digital services to find additional earnings.

In addition, according to him, personnel movements occur within the business. Companies have started to resort to layoffs less often, and employees are more likely to switch between enterprises to more favorable terms by agreement of employers.

Reshetnikov said on June 4 at the session "How to return to the trajectory of sustainable economic growth in the face of global uncertainty" within the framework of SPIEF 2026 that without new sources of income to the Russian labor market, it would be difficult for the state to ensure economic growth. The Minister pointed out that the agency, together with the Ministry of Labor, is developing measures to further involve the population in the labor market. According to him, there are still reserves in the areas of the young and older population.
